ANE EXPORT DECADE MEGA ACTIVITIES 2005-2015

The ANE has been very active in the last decade in fulfilling its core mandate of promoting exports in all its ramifications, and most especially in policy advocacy, market development, and export-oriented investment drive locally and internationally, as could be seen in some of our major activities:

 

YEAR 2015 PROGRAMMES

• 10TH NEWSTREND MAGAZINE ANNUAL LEADERSHIP & ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONFERENCE, UYO AUGUST 14, 2015

ANE delegation participated in the event while ANE DG was Key-Note Speaker on “Evolving Cutting-Edge Strategies For Global Best Practices In Entrepreneurship”
 
• BusinessDay Newspaper-Market Access Forum 2015, Warri and Calabar on August 25 & 27, 2015 Respectively.
A large ANE delegation from South-South States participated. ANE DG was a Guest Panelist at the event sponsored by Union Bank and SMEDAN.
 
• “I-FOR-AFRIKA 2015” and “ENERASIA 2015” December 1 - 4 2015, Ahmedabad, Gujarat State, India
ANE delegation attended the event. Outcomes include Indian Investor’s visit to a Suleja School on ICT Partnership in February 2016. Also, another Indian Investor’s visit to Lagos for Organic Farming JV with ANE members; and yet another investor interest in Agric Machineries Assembly Plant in one of the Northern States.

• ANE-USA Inc Trade Office: Office rented effective April 1, 2014 at Piedmont Center, Atlanta.
 
• ANE-BusinessDay Newspaper collaboration on “Agribusiness & Food Security Summit” Civic Center, VI, Lagos; September 24, 2014.  ANE delegation participated with ANE DG as guest panelist.
 
• Free Trade Zone Security, Operations And Exhibitions Summit (FTZSOE 2014), Organized by The National Assembly in Lagos; March 24-26, 2014:
ANE delegation participated with ANE DG as Guest Speaker on ‘Free Trade Zone and Offshore Banking: Imperatives For Nigeria’.
 
 
• "I - FOR AFRIKA 2014"; 10th - 12th October, 2014, Mumbai, India
ANE delegation attended the event and also visited some industries for JV ventures. Special Investment opportunities identified during some Factories’ tours included offer by some Indian companies for JV to set up Industrial Machineries Manufacturing Industries in Nigeria.
 
• Trade Mission For ANE Trade Office/ Export House Collaboration Meeting with Georgia Dept of Economic Development; October/November 2014
Government of Georgia formally Issued Letter dated November 3, 2014 authorizing the Operationalization of ANE Trade Office/Export House in Atlanta.

YEAR 2013 PROGRAMMES

• India Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) 14th – 16th March 2013
Nigerian delegation participated courtesy of the IACCI-ANA MoU. The event provided opportunity for industrial JVs. ANE secured off-=shore sponsorship for Nigerian delegates.
 
• I-FOR AFRIKA 2013 India, 3rd-5th October 2013, Mumbai
A large Nigerian delegation participated in the event courtesy of the IACCI-ANE MoU. This event provided a wonderful opportunity for Nigerian delegates and other African countries to meet and promote India-African/Intra-African trade and Investment.
 
• International Shea Butter Convention/Training Course, Atlanta USA, October 24-26, 2013
A14-man Nigerian delegation drawn from Academia, Government Export Agencies, Shea Processors and Guest Speakers was coordinated by ANE to the event for training in shea butter processing and market access.
 
• SelectUSA Investment Summit 2013, Washington DC, October 31st –November 1, 2013
President Barrack Obama addressed the Summit attended by ANE delegation as the only Nigerian Representative. ANE DG had audience with US Secretary of Commerce who facilitated meetings for the DG at her office with officials of Foreign Trade Zone Board and SelectUSA Agency. ANE delegation later paid courtesy call on the Nigerian Ambassador Adefuye to brief him on the Summit. This moved ANE to accelerate action to operationalize ANE Trade Office in  Atlanta.

YEAR 2012 PROGRAMMES

• ELECRAMA 2012, Mumbai, India. 18th-22nd January 2012.
ANE coordinated a large Nigerian delegation to the World’s Largest Electrical Show that included a large team of PHCN staff and a Staff Business Correspondent of Guardian Newspapers. ANE secured full sponsorship (Flight, Hotels/feeding, etc) through the IACCI-ANE MoU for the Nigerian delegates.
 
• India Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) 22nd -24th March 2012 in Mumbai, India
ANE coordinated Nigerian delegation to the event to source production machineries and JV Partners courtesy of the IACCI-ANE MoU. ANE secured full off-shore sponsorship (flight, hotel, etc) for the Nigerian delegates
 
• ‘I- FOR AFRIKA 2012’ and ‘AFRIKA CONCLAVE 2012’;   28th – 31st May 2012, India:
ANE coordinated Nigerian delegation to the two events held two days each in Mumbai Maharashtra State & Surat Gujarat State. India. MoUs were signed by some delegates and the Outcomes have been mutually beneficial to JV partners.
 
• International Conference On “Business Opportunities And Challenges Of African Agri-Food Sectors”; August 29th - 30th, 2012 in Mumbai.
The very successful event was concluded with a two day Industrial tour to Jain Irrigation Ltd Agro Industries, Farms and Research Centers also in Maharashtra State.

YEAR 2011 PROGRAMMES

• Global Board of Trade Commodities Exchange Delegation to Nigeria, February 2011:
ANE facilitated the visit of GBOT Commodities Exchange MD and Top Management to Nigeria for meetings with Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, MD of ABUJA Securities & Commodities Exchange, DG of Securities & Exchange Commission, and NEPZA MD. The GBOT also had a group dialogue with members of Financial Market Dealers Association (FMDA) that included 17 Nigerian Banks at the FMDA Secretariat Lagos on February 2, 2011. A major outcome was the issuance by CBN of Guidelines of Forex Trading to coincide with the meeting.
 
• I-FOR AFRIKA  2011: MOU Between ANE & IACCI; Mumbai, India April, 2011.
ANE delegation attended the event organized by the Indo African Chamber of Commerce & Industries (IACCI). MoU was signed during the event between ANE and IACCI to promote bilateral Trade between India and Nigeria.  Since then there has been yearly in-bound and out-bound Trade Missions between the two countries under the MoU. In addition, The event has provided a yearly opportunity for delegates of most African countries to meet and promote Intra-African trade.

YEAR 2010 PROGRAMMES

• Nigeria-USA Business Forum April 12-20, 2010:
Organized by Federal Ministry of Commerce & Industry in Atlanta, Houston and Chicago, ANE was commissioned to provide the Business Roadmap for the events in the three US cities. Hon. Minister Martins-Kuye led the Nigerian delegation while ANE DG moderated the events in the three cities. MUs were signed in Houston and Chicago that led to many bilateral trade & investment missions to Nigeria
.
• Association of Nigerian Exporters USA, Inc Registered with the State of Georgia, USA: May 2010
ANE USA, Inc was registered with the Government of Georgia as the first step taken to facilitate the opening of ANE Trade Office & Export House in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
• 6th U.S. - Africa Trade and Investment Forum. Aug 9 -12, 2010, Chicago, USA
Minister Martins-Kuye led the Nigerian delegation which included ANE team t the event organized by the Continental Africa Chamber of Commerce. Outcomes followed in Solid Mineral trade and investment trade missions to Nigeria, etc
 
• MoU Signing with GBOT Commodities Exchange in Mauritius (Now BOURSE AFRICA), October 2010:
Nigerian delegation including Bankers from Access Bank attended the launch of Global Board of Trade Commodities Exchange in Mauritius with ANE DG as Guest Panelist to promote Nigerian Commodities Trade on Exchanges abroad.  The DSTv CNBC Channel 410 interview on the MoU is available in U-tube and ANE website: www.associationofnigerianexporters.org

YEAR 2009 PROGRAMMES

• TIFA Forum in USA, March 31, 2009:

ANE was part of the Nigerian Delegation led by the Hon. Minister of Commerce and Industry. Outcomes included USTR’s facilitation of collaboration meetings on Agribusiness Development Roundtable with Prince George’s County Economic Commission, Maryland and ANE. It offered opportunity to access US Government Agric Support Fund dedicated to eleven Sub-Saharan African countries, and to have access to research support from some 29 Agric Research Institutes in the USA.
 
• Nigeria-China Bilateral Commission in Beijing, June 2009
ANE-DG/NEPZA Board Member attended  the bilateral meeting as part of Nigerian delegation led by the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs.
 
• China Canton Fair, Guangzhou, China, October 2009. ANE-DG/NEPZA Board Member was at the event with NEPZA delegation.
 
• World Free Zone Convention in Hyderabad, India, December 2009.                                   ANE-DG/NEPZA Board member was part of NEPZA delegation to the event.
 
• Visit to Nigerian High Commissioner in New Delhi, December 11, 2009
The High Commissioner personally received the ANE DG and offered advices that led to the signing of MoU between ANE and some Indian Business Associations and Companies, including Indo African Chamber of Commerce & Industry which has resulted in bilateral trade & investment flows.

YEAR 2008 PROGRAMMES

• US Economic Counselor’s Tour of Calabar Free Trade Zone and Tinapa FTZ & Business Resort was facilitated by  ANE on May 12, 2008.

ANE facilitated  NEPZA-US Embassy Meetings in Abuja to attract US investors to Nigerian Free Zones, ANE followed up and facilitated a tour of Calabar Free Trade Zone by US Economic Counselor Mr. Tansey. The Zone Management conducted the Economic Diplomat round CFTZ and Tinapa FTZ & Business Resort. Outcome was recommendation of the Zone to US Investors as a safe business enclave.
 
• 1st Tinapa FTZ International Business EXPO & Seminar, June 2008, Calabar.
ANE delegation participated and ANE DG was Guest Speaker

YEAR 2007 PROGRAMMES

• The 1st U.S. International Investment and Finance Forum for Projects, Trade, Investment and Capital Equipment, Houston Texas, Feb 7.9, 2007:

ANE-DG was on the US EXIM Bank recommendation  invited as Guest Speaker to the event covered by News Agency of Nigeria Correspondent from New York. Outcomes followed with US Investors from Miami, Florida visiting NEXIM Bank for Guarantees of their investments in a Vehicle Assembly Plant, as well as AgroExport Industry and Mass Housing projects in Imo and Akwa Ibom States.

YEAR 2006 PROGRAMMES

• AGOA Forum; Washington DC; June 6-7, 2006
ANE delegation led by the National President participated in the Forum.
 
• Africa Investment Forum, Washington DC, June 7, 2006:
Organized in Washington DC by The Whitaker Group & USTR: ANE coordinated the Nigerian Private sector delegation to the Forum. At that Forum attended by high level US Government Officials including the US Trade Representative and US Assistant Trade Rep for Africa, ANE protested the BAN OF DIRECT FLIGHT BETWEEN NIGERIA AND USA. That protect moved the USTR to facilitate US-Nigeria Air Travel Advocacy Talks between ANE and key US Agencies in Washington DC.
 
• Nigeria-USA Trade & Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council Meeting, in Washington DC, USA; June 8, 2006
ANE coordinated the Private sector delegation to the TIFA Council Meeting and formally made a case for the lifting of ban on direct flight between USA and Nigeria. As a result, the Leader of US Government team, US Assistant Trade Representative for Africa Ms Florie Liser announced the decision of the USTR to arrange Advocacy Consultation Meetings for ANE Director General to meet with relevant US Government Agencies in Washington DC.
 
• USTR-facilitated Advocacy Consultation Meeting With US Government Agencies for Lifting of Embargo On Direct Flight Between Nigeria and USA, June 29-30, 2006, in Washington DC:
As a follow up to the TIFA Meeting of June 8, 2006, the USTR facilitated meetings between ANE and the following US Government Agencies - USTR, Dept Of Transportation (DOT), OPIC, EXIM BANK, and USAID  to discuss ANE proposals for the US Government to lift its ban on direct flight between Nigeria and USA. ANE delegation was hosted by the US Agencies on June 29 & 30, 2006 and their reports submitted through USTR to the US Government. The flight embargo was lifted a few months thereafter. We appreciate the support of Ambassador Andrew Young who supported the advocacy as published in Global Atlanta Newsletter. Direct Supports were the Former US Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Howard Jeter who personally went with ANE delegation to the meeting at the EXIM Bank; Prof. Marcellus Jackson, Director of the Economic Development Center, Clark Atlanta University for providing material and intellectual inputs in the advocacy; and the Distinguished Prof. Emeritus Amos Ajo of Clark Atlanta University who co-planned and participated as Main Resource Person in the International Air Travel Advocacy event of July 20, 2006 in Nicon Hilton, Abuja
 
• 1st International Forum on African Intercontinental Air-hub & Transnational Highway To Further Advocacy for Lifting of Ban on Direct Flight Between Nigeria and USA, July 20, 2006.
 
ANE collaborated with Economic Development Center, Clark Atlanta University, USA to stage the event in Hilton Hotel ABUJA on July 20, 2006 to mobilize local Nigerian Support (public & private) for ANE Advocacy towards the lifting of ban on USA-Nigeria direct flight. Professor Amos Ajo came from USA to Nigeria as Guest Speaker at the Advocacy Event arranged to coincide with the Leon Sullivan Summit of July 18-20, 2006 held in the same Hotel and attended by over two hundred American public and private sector officials. Onne Oil & Gas Free Zone Authority was the Lead Sponsor of the Advocacy event. The Advocacy Report was forwarded to USTR and US Department of Transportation for presentation to US Government in support of ANE’s quest for lifting of ban on direct flight. The Ban on direct flight between Nigeria and the USA was lifted a few months after the advocacy drive.
 
• Africa Oil & Gas Forum by Corporate Council on Africa, Bethesda, Maryland, USA November 29-30, 2006:
ANE delegation attended the event and was able to attract investors. Outcome: A 2-man US investors delegation from Los Angeles, USA later visited the Calabar Free Trade Zone on June 17, 2007 with proposals to invest in Phosphate Fertilizer Plant, Oil Well Cement Plant and Petroleum Waste Incinerator. NEPZA Management however had could not allocate land for the projects in the zone, but advised the investors to chose other free zones in the country, which they objected.

YEAR 2005 PROGRAMMES

• NEXIMART EXPO 2005, Atlanta, Georgia; November 15-17, 2005.
ANE in collaboration with the Nigerian Consulate Atlanta planned and staged a 3-day Nigerian Export Exhibition & Investment Market (NEXIMART EXPO 2005) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA which was declared open by Amb. Andrew Young, assisted by the Assistant Secretary of State of Georgia and the Nigerian Consul General in Atlanta. Oil & Gas Free Zone Authority, Onne was the major sponsor of the event that was attended by NEXIM, NTA and NEPZA, among others. On that occasion ANE announced its intension to set up ANE Trade Office and Export House in Georgia following the invitation/approval of the Government of Georgia. That Trade Office Dream is now a reality.
 
• Tour of CNN World Headquarters, Atlanta by Nigerian Business Delegation with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Crew.
ANE leadership led the NTA crew with other Nigerian delegates including the MD of Oil & Gas Free Zone Authority, Onne on official business tour of the facilities of the CNN Studios on November 17, 2005 to round up the 1st NEXIMART EXPO. It was during the meeting with CNN Management that the NTA team discussed their plan to set up NTA-International, and sought the support of CNN Management. The NTA team to the NEXIMART EXPO included the Director General, Company Secretary, a News Editor and a Cameraman.

11th National Council on Commerce had approved Mandatory Registration of Exporters with ANE and Export Sub-Groups of other OPS Agencies to certify genuine exporters.
